Young Curator
London, United Kingdom
Oct 2015 - Jun 2016 (8 months)
As a young curator for the William Morris Gallery, I had a few roles. I would help the senior curators set up exhibitions, which included moving things in and out of the exhibits and adding display tags around the art. Additionally, I would help promote events at the gallery, by taking advertisements to the local schools and colleges in my area for them to put up for their student body. I would engage with the senior curators in meetings in how the staff would make the gallery more accessible and appealing to young people. Finally, I would help to brainstorm events and strategies and then begin to plan them, with an allocated budget. I would work alongside both the young and senior curators to help organise, set up, host and tidy up after the events. On the day of an event, I would alternate roles alongside other young curators, which would include manning the front desk to greet and sign in visitors, hovering around the gallery, if a visitor needed help and helping to oversee and lead events in rooms designated with activities. Via the William Morris Gallery, I also took part in the Art On The Underground project led by the writer Ania Bas, from 2016-2017, in which I helped to design and distribute a magazine about the Victoria Line and life as a young person living in London. My contribution to the project was a short newspaper styled manga comic strip.
