BDL is a startup company seeking to develop novel medical devices. Under the direction of Dr. Timothy Becker, we are currently developing a treatment for cerebral aneurysms using a new liquid embolus, PPODA-QT. I am currently working to optimize catheter size and fluid viscosity. This is to ensure the ease-of-use for physicians. I helped develop an in vitro 3D printed flow model to test the device. I also helped create an in vitro rabbit elastase model and assisted in live surgery. I learned how to prepare surgical instruments, operate a fluoroscope, use DICOM hardware and software, and keep records in a lab book. My work has helped prove the safety and effectivity of the new device.

I worked primarily as a project manager responsible for maintenance and replacing industrial equipment. One project I managed was the installation of explosion suppression devices. The grain dust is explosive and I gathered information that determined how many additional devices were needed to suppress a blast if an explosion were to occur. Then, I calculated the volumetric air flow of the duct and determined it to be sufficient to install an additional inlet. I supervised the installation of inlet and its duct work. After an accident in the plant, many chain guards were found to be dangerous. I was assigned to be a project lead for auditing each chain guard. My responsibility was to assure that unsafe chain guard was repaired or replaced. No further accidents occurred during my time with Purina.
