Giannicola originally trained in fine arts and jewellery in Italy. In 2006 he moved from Sicily to England to study fine art at Reading College. Gianni is passionate about art in general, but developed a specific interest in antiques, leading him to study furniture restoration and conservation at Bucks New University in High Wycombe, historically one of the principal centres of furniture making in the UK.
Studying full-time at Bucks for his BA (Hons) Furniture Restoration, Conservation & Decorative Arts enabled Gianni to develop new skills and knowledge across a broad range of furniture areas, finding a particular interest and affinity with marquetry - the historic decorative technique of cutting thin sheet materials to create naturalistic and geometric patterns, using wood veneers, sheet metal such as brass or pewter, and semi-precious stones like mother of pearl, all which can be applied to furniture surfaces.
Gianni is available for bespoke furniture commissions, general restoration and conservation projects. In addition to his training as a furniture conservator, he is also able to create unique and individual pieces of furniture by combining traditional and contemporary styles based in the decorative arts field.
