The Basso Chair - Solid cherry and solid padouk. The form was inspired by electric and upright basses and by Arts & Crafts / Craftsman style furniture. The dimensions are based upon dining chairs designed by Charles Rennie Mackintosh, and the joinery based upon furniture by the Gustav Stickley Co. Like Stickley, I wanted to create a design that could be mass produced, but preserve a sense of solidity, honesty, and heirloom quality. Those feelings are conveyed by the use of solid wood, exposed joints, a minimum of hardware, and by hand finishing.
