Nature Research Center at North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences

Client: North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences
Location: Raleigh, NC
Date: Opened to the public 2012
Scope: 35,000 sf
Implementation Budget: $16,200,000

For four years I collaborated with the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences to produce three floors of exhibits at the Museum's new Nature Research Center. In the design and production phases of this work, I oversaw a host of remote contractors and collaborated closely with the design architect, transitioning to the architect of record. I performed as lead experience designer for the project which spanned three floors of exhibit galleries in 35,000 sf. The new exhibits complement the existing natural history museum; in the original museum, the content focuses on "What we know," about natural sciences while the new museum focuses on "How we know" it. Half of the project''s $16.2m budget was allocated toward the production of ground-breaking multimedia elements including a three-story, egg-shaped theater: "The Daily Planet."
