Pietro Ortiz Photography: www.pietroortizphotography.com | Website re-design for Pietro Ortiz and UCSC-Extension: Web Design Project | (Final project for UCSC Web Design Certificate, 2012)
Original iWeb site hosted with MobileMe | With the termination of MobileMe hosting by Apple in June 2012, photographer Pietro Ortiz was sought to update his photo gallery portfolio site with a modern, professional site appearance and structure.
Final Design (Home and Gallery page samples): www.pietroortizphotography.com | Information Architecture re-categorized into 3 top-level galleries (down from 6) plus a page for About Pietro (photographer / site owner) and a Facebook link
Initial Sketches: Examining Design Ideas and Information Architecture | High-resolution slide show on the home page. Thumbnail sub-navigation on the gallery pages. Classification of images for top-level galleries and possible sub-classifications
Design phase 2: Omnigraffle | Early design of proposed information architecture (site map) and Gallery page wireframe. (Later design iteration simplified both the photo sub-classification layer in the information architecture and changed to a slide show rather than featured-image on the gallery page.)
Wireframe Iteration: Omnigraffle to Photoshop | Early low fidelity wireframe iteration: design refinement, reducing clutter and incorporating Supersized (home page) and Lightbox (gallery page) jQuery slideshows
Photoshop Composition Design Iteration: Navigation Banners and Favicons | Initial transparent banner on home page was replaced with opaque banner to improve legibility of navigation across variable background imagery. Favicon development started with Pietro Ortiz’s initials PRO and evolved into a simple P for improved legibility at Favicon.ico display size.
Final Site | Home, Gallery, and About sample pages. Website developed with html, css, JavaScript, and jQuery in Adobe Dreamweaver and Photoshop. Copyright and ownership metadata embedded in gallery photographs with Photoshop. Email link protected from spam-bots with JavaScript obfuscation.
