A long time ago I brought a pepper from my garden and a few drawings into a meeting of the West Houston Chamber of Commerce... we were to come up with a theme... and mine was chosen with great enthusiasm. The guest of honor was Richard "Racehorse" Haynes. I never got any credit for either the art or the ideas I contributed. I did, however, recycle my jalapeno art in a number of subsequent projects.
"Guido the Pizza Duck" was the mascot I designed for a short-lived pizza company called "We're Talkin' Pizza!". The people who created this business did everything right... whole grain crust, real cheese and their own sauce recipe. They just couldn't compete with Domino's.
More spirited jalapeno personalities... a "keep on truckin'" character and a peppy cheerleader.
Cute cartoon drawing I did for a direct mailer card for a local computer repair company.
A long, tall Texan meeting a business belle, and a jazz musician blowing hot tunes.
Peppers in a hot-tub... what else?
CAN SUZANNE INK? Certainly! Pen & ink, rapidograph and brush. I love the face on this little mermaid.
I utilized a combination of rapidograph pen and pen quill to make this dainty fairy.
I did this series of posh penguins while working for a real estate management company. I did bears, squirrels, Charlie Chaplin, mermaids, hula girls... you name it. These little series were recycled in promoting lease-ups at apartment communities all over the western half of the US. They were used in everything from banners to newsletters, ads, t-shirts, flyers and direct mail. When you have little budget and a property to lease up while it is being rehabbed, you get creative. Funny stuff works because it attracts attention.
Pen & ink drawing of Tigra from Marvel Comics' Avengers series. I would show up at local sci-fi/comics conventions and draw people's favorite characters for $50 a pop. The top seller? Wolverine drinking beer... no kidding.
This was a wrap-around illustration for the SuperCon program book, which I did in pen & ink and designer's markers. I left space in the upper right corner so they could place their logo and text. Characters featured, from right to left: the wolf and elf from Pini's Elfquest comics, convention organizer Jerry Wilhite (he did look like that), the Hulk, Spock, Sunfire from the Teen Titans (DC comics), Magneto, Ka-Zar and Zabu, Wolverine, Storm and Dr. Strange (Marvel Comics)... and Garfield the Cat.

I've done a lot of cartoon illustration over the years, often in conjunction with advertising campaigns. I originally did the jalapeno pepper characters for the West Houston Chamber of Commerce, then recycled them for several other clients' projects. I'm a big comics fan.
