Enthused fashion designer, artist, and soon to be MFA grad!

I believe fashion design goes further than exhibiting beauty and has the potential to serve as a generative source for social and cultural sustainment. For this reason, I am particularly invested in social sustainability within fashion and have devoted my research to exploring the ways in which designers can cultivate ethical and reciprocal collaborations with artisans around the world. Continually growing and learning, I am thrilled to be on this journey and excited to see where this passion takes me!

  • Education
    • Master of Fine Arts in Electronic & Time Based Art, focus on Anthropology
      Purdue University
      2012 - 2015
Her research begins by investigating the world of fashion as a product of globalization and critiquing the effects of fast fashion. This revealed an urgency in sustainable alternatives within design whereby fashion designers can intervene as agents of change. This realization lead Alejandra to her main research question involving the relationship between the designer, fashion, and culture. Her work focuses on investigating how North American fashion designers can form ethical and reciprocal collaborations with artisans around the world. This perspective is an approach and consideration of social sustainability in fashion, of which Alejandra hopes to extend and continue researching and exploring professionally.
    • Bachelor of Fine Arts in Fashion Design
Otis College of Art and Design
      2007 - 2011
In pursuit of the creative and innovative world of design, Alejandra Carrillo-Muñoz was admitted to Otis College of Art and Design within the top 5% of the 2007 entering class. She was awarded the highest funding award, the John Reena Scholarship, and admitted into the honors program which enhanced her academic experience and fashion design education. Four years later and after having received an Otis Thimble Award for ' Best Design' from designer Robin Piccone, Alejandra completed her BFA and graduated top of the fashion design program. Her academic gains while at Otis earned her entrance into the bridal industry, granting her an immediate designer position.
