I am currently a student at Rochester Institute of Technology pursuing a Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering. I am eager to explore engineering and motivated to take on new and innovative challenges. After a summer internship at one of SABIC's internationally recognized research facilities, I discovered a passion for research and development (R&D), but more specifically Additive Manufacturing (AM), or as many know it as 3D printing.
After spending two summers at SABIC, I then spent the next fall at Global Tungsten & Powder in their R&D Energy Division. Here I learned the fundamental properties of powder metallurgy as well as how the powder can be improved for 3D printing. This allowed me to not only develop my R&D skills, but it gave me valuable experience applicable toward metal AM. In order to develop my AM skills even further, I then spent the following summer at Rapid Prototyping + Manufacturing (rp+m), a leading service provider of rapid prototyping and manufacturing services. This company gave me a great deal of hands on experience working with top of the line 3D printers as well as highly experimental materials. After building quite an extensive AM network and developing an array of skills in the AM field, I received the opportunity to work at one of the nations most recognizable AM research facilities, Oak Ridge National Laboratories. Here I am working at the Manufacturing Demonstration Facility (MDF) in their Manufacturing Systems Research Group concentrating on large format polymer and metal AM. This experience has given me the opportunity to help develop AM technologies at the core of the industry.
These experiences have greatly expanded my knowledge within the 3D field, hoping that one day I may have an opportunity to change the world just as Additive Manufacturing has done.
