Artist Statement for the Everett Series
This series is the culmination of my searching for a simplified process to create paintings and an afternoon with my youngest son Everett. My art in the past and more evident in the Everett series is based on the use of variations of a single form: the line. I enjoy the challenge of creating paintings that involve interesting compositions based on the use of simplified forms. While searching for a new form to work with for the series presented in this exhibition I was enjoying some time with my son. I pulled up MS Paint and selected the colours and brush widths and let Everett go to it. He rapidly shook the mouse back and forth creating a mess of colours and various widths of lines. The digital drawings we created together became the genesis of this exhibition.
