I have always loved all forms of art and self expression. Like many creative people, my goal was to find a job where I could use my artistic skills at work. Over the past five years in the Visual Communications programs that I have been in, I am on my way to reaching my goal.

Along the way I have learned so many other things, like working in a group and collaborating with other creative people. I have learned about art history and the history of graphic design. I have learned many technical and computer skills which make the art that I create come alive on screen. My internship as a student graphic designer at Western Oregon University has taught me to work with clients and to oversee a design project from beginning to end. This has been a beautiful and necessary journey in my life.

    • Student Graphic Designer
      Western Oregon University
      Apr 2014 - Present (12 years 3 months)
As a student designer in the Public Relations Department at WOU, I have had the opportunity to work on many projects. I have created logos for the ASWOU student government, SAB student activities board as well as create art for the graduating class of 2014 blog: #wougrad and the student blog: #howlaboutit. These campaigns have been very successful and have driven many users to the social media pages that they were meant to advertise. One of my favorite projects has been the creation of social media cover photos for graduating students and for incoming freshmen. These cover photos can be uploaded from the WOU public relations page of the University's website and placed easily on a facebook or twitter page. They celebrate the victory of making it through to graduation and the excitement and anticipation of starting college. One of the illustrations that I created of the University was chosen by the WOU bookstore to be placed on a coffee mug and sold along with other collateral merchandise in the store. It is so fun and exciting to see my work out in the world and know that I have acquired the skills to create real merchandise.

Working as a Lab Technician at the Visual Communications Lab at Chemeketa I was the person who unjammed the printer, cleaned the lab, filled the paper trays and helped students. We also made sure the lab was safe and free from anyone who was not using it for the forces of good. We checked out equipment and directed people where they needed to be when they were looking for an instructor or a new class. This job gave me more than technical skills, it gave me skills in working with many diverse people and troubleshooting many interesting things.
