The final project assignment for my industrial design course in Copenhagen was to create a proposal for a new water tap design for an existing Danish company called Vola. I had to explain how the six-month allotted time limit would be utilizes and also needed to incorporate the 25th Anniversary occasion: Forever Young, Forever Vola. Some preliminary steps needed to be taken before I could start designing a new water tap fixture. This included background research of the company, examining current designs, what kinds of taps are made by the company, special features, the current sales demographic, and target group. In the end, I selected to create a hand-washing sink water tap for a hotel restroom. My concept was ‘flowers in the spring’ which I felt suited the anniversary occasion. My inspiration was the Calla Lily. No finalized design was required for the proposal, just some options presented to a panel of 4 people. I came up with three designs.
