Worked closely with section editors and other presentation desk editors, graphic designers and copy editors to decide play for stories, as well as coordinate workflow and ensure good deadline performance. Helped implement a massive expansion in suburban coverage for the Neighbors sections in 2005. Also covered a resurgence in the Miami jazz scene throughout 2006 and 2007.

Coordinated the consolidation of production for the three U.S. Metro commuter tabloid newspapers (in Philadelphia, New York and Boston) in a New York City hub in 2004 and created a pageflow and editing system from scratch. Managed a staff of 10 designer/copy editors and coordinated play and placement of stories for all three U.S. papers. Made key hires for the desk and led efforts to keep the department within its financial budget. Spearheaded effort to start a business section for Metro while in Philadelphia, and worked with Bloomberg News to create a specialized index for the newspaper. Also assisted in a redesign while in Philadelphia.

Directed a staff of 10 writers and copy editor/designers, as well as a double-digit group of freelancers for this 50,000-circulation Knight Ridder newspaper. Played a key role in the redesign of the section and the paper in 2000, which brought the sports section a pair of awards of excellence from the Society for News Design for sports section design and for our special daily Olympics wrap. Simultaneously acted as editor of Myrtle Beach Golf Magazine, and headed a redesign/retooling effort for the magazine that significantly increased revenue thanks to the reinvigorated original content. Led department to an honorable mention Sunday section award from the Associated Press Sports Editors.

Worked on general assignment beat, as well as cops and courts beats for several years before taking over the county government beat in 1995. Helped repurpose and redesign a weekly recreational sports tabloid in mid-1991 in the months following Knight Ridder's 25-43 project rollout, an effort that focused on hooking younger readers.
