Apple guru, Steve Jobs once said, “The only way to do great work is to love what you do.” This quote has summed up my design career.

After earning my Associates Degree in Commercial Art, I worked for a advertising and design agency (Alan Furst, Inc.). It was there I attained first hand experience in teamwork, design, layout, and establishing customer relationships. After that initial position, I was hired by a client of Alan Furst’s, STEM Int’l. Five years later, I was STEM’s acting Art Director and IT Administrator. As head of the design team, we worked with the CEO and Assistant Publisher to create a four color, advertiser funded (some of which were located in England and South Africa) magazine with a circulation of 150,000. I went back to school and completed the program at the Leadership Development Institute. While going to school, I went into business for myself and became a freelance Graphic Designer. Some of the highlights have been working with printers and clients while learning new skills.

The longer I am in the graphic design field, the more I’ve come to appreciate what Steve Jobs said. To do great work is to love what you do and I truly love what I do.

Hired to gear marketing pieces and publications towards a younger audience while being careful not to alienate the older crowd. STEM Int’l has sent short-term mission teams for over 25 years and their manuals, brochures, even T-shirts showed their age. Mission Maker has generated thousands of dollars in publication sales as well as 50% repeat advertisers.
      • The Sending Partner Training Manual was an in-depth, yet user friendly training manual for short-term mission leaders. It has been sought after by church leaders who want to send their own missions teams. The rights to duplicate the manual were purchased by an organization in Australia to convert the manual to their A4 size paper and distributed.
