Industrial Design Intern :: Advanced Concept Engineering (ACE)
Oct 2012 - Dec 2012 (2 months)
Worked as an Industrial Designer in the engineering department. Our team is the link between engineering and design on the front end of innovation. We are gear heads, tinkerers, inventors and risk takers that open the doors to new and exciting markets while advancing current brands to greater potentials
Responsibilites Included ::
Created proof of concept prototypes that showcase real functions // Engaged in designing research methods to test current workflows and gain insight in better design directions // worked with engineers on incorporating human factors and better user interfaces to products through sketching, prototyping, Solidworks modeling and various adobe suite programs // Worked on incorporating new manufacturing techniques and materials into current workflows to reduce cost, add efficiency, and bring an overall awesomeness to various brands within the company
Industrial Design Intern :: Professional Power Tools Team (CCi)
Jul 2012 - Oct 2012 (3 months)
Worked with a passionate and driven RIDGID product team on creating the next evolution in professional power tools and developing a new brand strategy. Participated in an innovation workshop to enhance in house design principles, strategies, and processes to compete in a very competitive market.
Heavy concept generation that required fast and effective styles from marker rendering on paper for team brainstorms, to photoshop tight renderings for final presentations // Used Solidworks modeling to create more efficient and manufacturable parts for new generations of products as well as revamping current products // using the RIDGID line of tools in the field to understand where current workflow and workarounds exist to generate valuable insights
Industrial Design Intern :: Ryobi Outdoor Products Team (CCi)
Jan 2012 - Jun 2012 (5 months)
Worked with a highly talented and efficient team to create power tools for the outdoor environment. Participated in strategy meetings, research methods, and the full design process to generate many new concepts and products for the Ryobi product line.
Complete control and responsibility on designing a new tool to the Ryobi outdoor product line. Through manual sketching, prototyping, and researching I created a concept that stayed true to the Ryobi brand without sacrificing functionality and efficiency // worked on heavy concept generation through sketching and renderings through illustrator and photoshop for future concepts // Completed thorough breakdowns of current products as well as competitors in the market to understand function and manufacturing principles // worked on graphics and layout for presentations and competition submissions
