Chelsea Herting

For the 2012-2013 academic year I was elected President of the Family and Consumer Sciences National Honor Society, Phi Upsilon Omicron Zeta Chapter.
My duties as President were to:
- plan and facilitate meetings, fundraisers, and service activities.
During my year as President 15 members and myself volunteered for:
- Orphan Acres (horse sanctuary)
- The Hope Center (thrift store)
- The Agricultural and Life Sciences Annual Corn Maze
- Alternatives to Violence of the Palouse (An organization that assists victims of domestic violence)
Alongside volunteering we also attended the U of I Career Night and educated high school students about Family and Consumer Science majors as well as the benefits of college and joining honor societies. At the end of my term, we initiated a record twenty-one new members.

- Conducted sales transactions using the U of I Banner sales program
- Located items for customers (store was closed to open browsing)
- Dispensed liquid nitrogen, ethanol, and acetone
- Weekly I would receive shipments, record inventory, and complete quantity adjustments on Banner
- Implemented a new labeling system for accurate inventory records
- Reorganized the non-chemical inventory of over 1,000 items into simplified categories to help with locating
- Trained new employees
- Assisted customers/researchers from a diverse range of backgrounds and languages

- Constructed costumes (6 men's suit coats, one female dress coat, one girls sailor jumpsuit, girls pajamas, and a men's cape)
- Altered old costumes to fit new actors and current plays time period
- Prepared finished garments for shows
- Repaired costumes
- Assisted in hemming and completing over ten garments
- Assisted in the measurement process
