Black & Decker Typhoon Fan

Designed to be the first fan sold under the Black & Decker brand, development included R&D on a high-volume blade conducted by a German engineering firm. The industrial design subsequently enclosed that blade within a turbofan style, gas-assist shroud to enhance its performance. Unfortunately, cost-cutting resulted in the shroud losing the solid band which enhanced the aerodynamics of the blade and gave it a distinctive appearance. While the product was apparently popular (it can currently be found on niche collector sites), marketing support for this and other Home Environment products evaporated after a corporate shake-up, and the line was eventually discontinued.
