Program: A landscape photography gallery and related facilities for creating and archiving photography as well as for housing an artist in residence.

Site: A 1,000+ foot long site along the White River Canal on the grounds of the Indianapolis Museum of Art.

Concept: In what ways can a building both create landscape and highlight the landscape around it?

My design generates a conversation regarding the definition of landscape. Can the floor be a landscape? In this building every space incorporates a level change of at least one foot. The roof? It exposes landscapes on top of and underneath the building, which is lifted off the ground at a point on the site that simultaneously provides views of the roofscape to passersby on the trail atop the levee.

Finally, the building highlights the features of the landscape around it. The projecting arms of the building are aimed at views of water, forest, bridge, formal gardens and historic house.
