Day 1 of cabinet install starts to pull the design together
The shower tile needed redesigned in the field as the niche could not be placed where expected. The new tile concept brought in a bold vertical stripe of the accent while the niche, now located on the back wall, fades into the horizontal wall tile.
Hiding under the beautiful herringbone floors is a Schluter heated floor system since most of the bathroom is on the exterior of the home. Instead of freezing every time they enter the bathroom, the homeowners will be toasty warm!
The iridescent accent tile captures the essence of the spa and sets the tone for the bathroom. It is neutral enough to satisfy the clients who were timid to use bold colors while providing a color outside of the otherwise monochromatic pallet.
A little surprise awaits the homeowner with a custom chosen drain cover by the designer, showing that good design is all about the details!
3D drawings done in Chief Architect helped tremendously in this project, allowing the clients to visualize what they couldn't previously. The vertical accent tile continues to draw the eye around the room and highlights the stunning cocoa bronze wall-mount faucets by Brizo.
Here we could show the client the white wallpaper with iridescent sunbursts that continued the feeling of the accent tile in a subtle understated way. The open cabinetry re-purposes an underutilized closet to allow for towels within reach of the shower and a place to sit and get dressed.
The new design gives a dramatically different feeling than the previous space. Clean modern elements and simple textures provide harmony while the bold floor tile gives insight into the clients who are more risk-takers than they originally thought!
BEFORE: The cabinetry literally towered over you as you entered the bathroom and mostly sat empty. The close placement of the two doorways and shower door caused bottlenecks in the mornings and was frustrating for the clients.
BEFORE: The garden tub was a builder imposed option and the large size made the Mrs. feel like she was drowning. It took up a lot of unnecessary space and presented a common problem of blocking the window access.
BEFORE: The existing shower was awkward with the dual fixed shower heads and tile on the angled ceiling. The existing tile work was completed after a pipe burst and was riddled with large grout lines and an extremely thick shower base. The homeowners asked for very little in their shower wish list except to make the "poop brown grout go away".

Modern Spa Master Bathroom - In Progress

The Anderson's are busy with successful careers and raising a family so when they wanted a new Master Bath with a spa/hotel feeling they came to a firm they could entrust to make all the decisions! They are young, enjoy striking designs, and weren't afraid to take chances with a space, as they plan to be in their home for many years. The furniture style cabinet was his primary focus and the use of inset doors helped to make it sleek. She wanted aspects of subtle glamour to remind her of their anniversary trip to Napa last year. A monochromatic grey and white palette is pulled together with rich texture and the iridescent diamond tiles help to add a touch of relaxation to the space.
