OPB / Oscillating Perfusion Bioreactor

OPB (2010) is the acronym for Oscillating Perfusion Bioreactor, a revolutionary device for tissue experimentation and culture, invented at MIT by M. Moretti and currently sold by SKE, a start-up firm from the Polytechnic University of Milan.
OPB is an incubator-compatible, motor driven perfusion bioreactor enabling cell seeding and culture within three-dimensional porous scaffolds, under confined perfusion conditions, in up to 18 parallely arranged, closed loop, gas permeable chambers.
The real scale model has been displayed within the exhibition Stazione Futuro, launched in Turin, on the occasion of the 150° anniversary of Italy's unification, in 2011.
The event, dedicated to the inventions best expressing Italian creativity and innovation, is the heart of the larger-scale exhibition Esperienza Italia, installed in the prestigious industrial and historical complex Officine Grandi Riparazioni in Turin.
