I am a footwear designer and creative director with 28+ years of experience designing and developing footwear across performance, Athletic, Skate, Snowboard, Tactical, lifestyle, outdoor, and workwear categories for all gender.

My work spans the full product cycle — from early concept and hand sketching through CAD, materials, construction, fit, and production-ready tech packs. I collaborate closely with developers, engineers, and factories to ensure that ideas translate into functional, manufacturable products without losing design intent.

Over the years, I have designed footwear for global brands, start-ups, and private clients, working across diverse categories including running, trail, hiking, skate, lifestyle, sandals, boots, tactical, and specialty footwear. I am comfortable building entire footwear lines from the ground up, as well as stepping into existing systems to elevate design language, comfort, and execution.

My approach is human-centered and experience-driven. I design with a deep respect for movement, material honesty, and cultural context, balancing aesthetics with durability, comfort, and real-world use. I believe strong footwear design lives at the intersection of story, function, and precision.

Currently based in Sedona, Arizona, I work remotely with brands worldwide and am available for freelance projects, consulting, and contract roles as well as full time positions.

      Sole Technology
      Lake Forest, IL
      Jul 1997 - Mar 2005 (7 years 8 months)
For over 8 years, at Sole Technology, Franck Boistel presented the market with truly unique designs, starting with the first Chad Muska pro shoe on Es, continuing on with Marc Johnson pro model, Ed Templeton’s footwear, Eric Koston pro shoes, and many more. FB designed and produced some of the best selling shoes in the skateboard industry for a time like the Scheme on Es, the czar, the Callicut and the Arto Saari pro shoe on Etnies, the Tilt, Marc Johnson, Ed Templetons, and the ratio on Emerica. FB designed and develop Thirty-two boots since 1997 with a special focus on the team two and team one boots as well as many others since 1997. At Sole Technology, as FB was for a while the only designer, then the senior, and as the company was growing every year, he was at the forefront of all new projects such as the design and launch of the Etnies girl category, the surf category, the outdoor category, the kids category, and the Etnies Plus line. For ES footwear, as the official designer of the brand for many years, FB offered the market with best sellers and produced some of the most technologically advanced skateboard footwear in the market. He also came up with the idea of the Gel-Air cushioning system, working with Trevor Hill and Jason Smith on a better adapted cushioning system for skateboarders, now used in all the sole Technology brands to these days under the name G2 systems.
