Better Bandaging

A portable ergonomic stool to assist district nurses with the application of lower limb bandaging

For district nurses, applying bandaging to the lower limbs of patients is a prominent problem in their daily routine. Applying a compression bandage to lower limbs is carried out 3-5 times a day, taking around 20 minutes per leg and causes discomfort for the duration of the application.

Having worked closely with 2 clinics; Glasgow’s Lyphoedema Specialist Clinic, and the Dalgety Bay Medical Centre, it became evident that developing back problems was a near inevitability for nurses. Furthermore, time off work and treatments to reduce the problem were common.

The stool conveniently folds away into a briefcase sized form with drawers so that the nurse can consolidate the specific pieces of equipment into one single storage unit.

The footrest for the patient is to be molded in a convex shape enabling it to be attached to the main shell and double up as a case to add to the durability.
