Since an early age I have always had a creative streak, originally wanting to develop my skills as a fine artist I pursued an art foundation. While studying art I became more passionate about creating 3-Dimensional objects, this inspired me to pursue a career in product design, which enabled me to not only create visually exciting items but objects that served a real purpose.

My passion for product design has enabled me to work for variety of industries, from waste management products, office furniture, Licensed toys and more recently creating beer fonts for well known brands.

My design experience doesn't stop with aesthetics, I get great pleasure in creating commercially viable products which offer true features and benefits to the end user.

    Profile

I am a self-starter, enthusiastic and hardworking designer with a varied and diverse background, having studied as a Product Designer and having work experience of both Product Design and Product Design engineering. My approach to design development is strongly user centred and process driven. I enjoy turning a problem or a concept inside out and brainstorming with others to generate innovative and appropriate solutions.

I am comfortable communicating concepts in sketch form, either as freehand sketches, physical models or initial exploratory 3D CAD models. I have experience of moving from concept to prototype and through to production ready data.

I have the ability to plan and organise a project through several stages with a persistent and flexible approach to suppliers and colleagues for the achievement of projects. I would consider myself a confident and persuasive team player who is able to motivate and communicate to achieve a high standard of work.

  • Experience
    • Product Design Engineer
      Micro Matic UK Ltd
      Jun 2011 - Present (15 years 1 month)
Branding has become the key issue to promote draught beverages. Micro Matic help the beverage brand owners create optimum impact for their brands at the point of dispense.

Working as part of a small team I have been involved in the full product life cycle, designing and developing beer fonts for brands including Cobra, Carling and Heineken.
I am involved in helping prepare initial tender presentation documents, for the sales team, creating part and surface models for prototyping and evaluation and developing cad data for production.

Further to the front end development I am involved in the detailing aspect of the design process. 2D drawings, BOM’s and assembly drawings, ensuring the product has a smooth transition from sampling to production.

Unlike previous roles, the initial concepts are produced from outside agencies. These visuals are usually very complex forms and require a very good understanding of surface modelling for production for both cast and injection moulded parts.
    • Designer/Product Designer (Contract)
      Worlds Apart Ltd
      Newquay, United Kingdom
      Jul 2010 - Dec 2010 (5 months)
The majority of my role involved re-branding standard product, using Illustrator and Photoshop files, preparing new designs from style guides for well-known brands such as Disney, Hello Kitty and Disney Pixar. A small amount of product design work was undertaken, usually designing wooded products from printed MDF panels.

    • Product Designer / Product Design Engineer (Rotational Moulding Division)
      Martin Yaffe International Ltd
      Manchester, United Kingdom
      Jul 2006 - Dec 2009 (3 years 5 months)
I was involved in a number of projects with MYI, a toy company who specialized in developing licensed products for big brand names like Thomas the Tank Engine, Fireman Sam, Fisher price and many more. This was an extremely diverse and rewarding role; involving the full product life cycle. Generating initial concepts, Cad models, prototyping in card, foam, CNC machining and on site FDM facilities.

An extensive knowledge of designing suites of tools for rotational moulding was required. Working closely with internal departments, European tool makers and external test facilities; ensuring products met licensee approval and British standards while maintaining a high level of documentation.
    • Product Designer / Furniture Designer
      Gresham Office Furniture Ltd
      Bolton, United Kingdom
      Jun 2004 - Sep 2006 (2 years 3 months)
Gresham office furniture employs over 250 dedicated people, all expertly skilled and committed to the business of designing, producing and installing workspace furniture.

I was involved in many projects. I worked closely with the senior product designer, creating concepts for new desk ranges, including ‘BENCH’ and ‘Axiom’ reception furniture and many smaller projects.

Due to issues with dispatching a product ‘Beam’, I was involved in ensuring the new product ‘BENCH’ was a success. Using Solidedge software and through previous experience I was able to create comprehensive assembly drawings and BOM’s which ensured orders would leave the warehouse with speed and without problems.
