The trick was to incorporate the 6 segments of the company to form a box. Sort of like looking at an image that tricks the eyes.
The bank would be situated at the corner of one of the busiest intersections in Houston.
There was an old adage used by Massimo Vignelli, one of the greatest graphic designers of our time. He believed that there where only 6 type fonts worth using.
I believe the logo speaks for itself.
The symbolism is formed by using the E as part of the graphic.

Various logos for manufacturing companies and banking. One of my responsibilities was creating materials for various NEW community banks and branding materials to raise capital. Massimo Vignelli said there are only 6 fonts worth using in design. I happen to agree with that classic philosophy.
