Joseph Weissgold is an interdisciplinary designer specializing in designing for education. In his practice, Joseph uses maps, stories, projects, and games as opportunities to reframe existing mental models and lead to insights. He has been using experimental methods to teach for more than a decade both in the classroom and out. Currently, he is finishing his graduate degree at the Products of Design program at the School of Visual Arts in New York. In the course of his study he is exploring how teachers might foster creativity through the use of new technologies, alternative class structures and design frameworks. More generally, his passion lies in the opportunities that emerge when inflexible infrastructure impedes cultural shift.

The Products of Design graduate program at SVA, deals with the role of the new-designer. Trained in research methods and with an aptitude for modeling both the real and the imagined, the design thinker understands both the micro and macro context for which he designs. To have the most consequential impact on any system, the designer must reserve assumptions about whether the end product will be an object, graphic, strategy or any combination of those.
