After plant closure at General Motors eliminated my 24 year career, I changed directions so I could explore the creative side in me.
Upon graduation with an Associates in Visual Communication from Sinclair College in Dayton, Ohio, I landed a position as Marketing Director at the local Harley-Davidson dealer. While it was surely and exciting time and I learned much about today's Social Media industry, and creating a community buzz through event planning and sales and marketing.
From there I became the Office Manager/Project Co-ordinator for a printing company. Under new ownership, I was in charge of the transition from previous owners and to a new location all while maintaining the level of quality and speedy service given their clients for thirty years. I was the Art Director in charge of work flow and quality. I did many design projects for It was a true learning experience. Unfortunately the Company became a victim of the recession and did not survive.
I then found myself working at ACCO brands in Kettering, Ohio (formerly Meade; trapper keeper, planners, journals, calendars) as a replacement designer. I was there for a short time before my husband's business demanded that I take charge.
Running a business, what can I say? In 5 years I was able to significantly increase revenue (more than 30%) through cataloging, inventory changes, rebuilding our website, changing the store layout. Until the Covid-19 pandemic, we were slated to have our best year ever. Still something was missing. I just truly enjoy the challenge of new design and layout. I look forward to every new project.
My heart yearns to get lost in the art of design and so today, I branch out on my own as a freelance designer, excited to see where this journey will lead. While in school, our instructors were very passionate about the fundamentals of design and it's process as well as the elements. That caught a hold of me and hasn't let go. I have missed, and very much look forward to collaborating again with fellow designers and using the fundamentals to create great works!
