Having designed products and branding strategies in house for recognized retailers GAP Inc,Banana Republic and Pottery Barn, Mario Muto now consults to the retail sector bringing a wealth of talent and experience in furniture and home design, package design and branding. Mario's acute understanding of art, fashion and design trends as well as design history make him a great asset to the design profession. His strong understanding of architecture and engineering also guarantee the functionality of his designs.
Trained at the Pratt Institue in New York city, Mario worked alongside notable architects and designers. In 1990 upon completion of his education Mario went to work for Mottura, an up and coming home and fragrance wholesale design business. Mottura received much design acclaim for
packaging design and is part of the SF MOMA permanent collection. GAP Inc. took keen note of the Mottura branding and philosophy and in 1992 was Mottura was purchase by GAP Inc. Mario joined GAP Inc to design fragrance packaging for 3 diverse brands simultaneously, Gap, Banana
Republic and Old Navy.
In late 1994, Mario moved exclusively into houseware design as a Senior Designer for Pottery Barn and Williams Sonoma where he designed everything from furniture to tabletop to lighting.
Additionally Mario has traveled extensilvely throughout Europe and Asia developing product and sourcing materials for his lateset designs. Today these collections can be found in Pottery Barn,Crate&Barrel and Williams sonoma Stores.
