One Man: Two Brains. Its Photography and print- production.
In fine-art documentary photography, I shoot with a clear vision, with high technical standards, so the energy of the image is rendered without excessive mediation. If you want a glaze, get a donut.
Working Procedures
In photo-retouching and digital imaging: All work is done in layers. Original art files are unaltered or damaged. Layers are named and grouped for future use. Masks, channels and curves are utilized to achieve optimal results. All changes are organic, invisible, and reversible.
In print production, I look at:
• guides and invisibles
• presence or absence of style sheets—both character and paragraph
• master pages
• color palettes
• headers, footers, indexes and tables of contents, if applicable
If these are not addressed properly, the document will haunt you forever.
Specialties:
Photography: Portraiture and contemporary society, utilizing vintage mid-century cameras and film, in both 35 and medium format.
Print production: Long format documents [annual reports, manuals], ad production, and hand-assembly of specialized comps—like the summer I worked for Saul Bass building scale models of gas station canopies and model cars for a Standard Oil of Ohio pitch. Then I built the custom shipping boxes that got them to Cleveland, undamaged and spotless.
