This project was to design sunglasses with a group for the Opus Design award competition. My group chose to design glasses with enough protection to directly view a solar eclipse. We began with research, the muscles and bones of the human face, the workings of the eye, light, and solar eclipses. Then we sketched and built sketch models and finally made a working prototype of our final design made of resin
This project was to design sunglasses with a group for the Opus Design Award competition. My group chose to design glasses with enough protection to directly view a solar eclipse. We began with research, the muscles and bones of the human face, the workings of the eye, light, and solar eclipses. Then we sketched and built sketch models and finally made a working prototype of our final design made of resin.
The final design was a pair of sunglasses that provided enough protection to look directly at the sun without damage to your eyes. This was achieved by making the lenses out of the same auto-darkening material as a welding helmet, to provide quick protection from bright light when necessary and lighten up when appropriate. These were powered by two solar panels, one on each side.
