Handle & Head

This project consisted of a two part process. The first part included the design of the handle. When designing the handle, we were designing for a client group who gave my design group a list of criteria that they wanted us to take into consideration when designing the handle for them. This involved a lot of going back and forth between the client and design group to reach a final design. Once that was decided, each member of my design group was given a term that had to influence the design of their utensil head. The term I was given was "allocator", which means to to set apart for a particular purpose. The food that heavily influenced the design of my utensil head was matzoh ball soup. I wanted to utensil head to catch the dumplings in the soup while letting the liquid from the soup drain through the opening in the spoon head. The manufacturing process included fabricating a wooden handle and then casting the utensil head out of a rubber urethane.
