Direct a multi-faceted team focused on Interior Design, Graphic Design, Layout Design and Architecture to develop new environments for Meijer stores. Focus on the annual development of aesthetics and layouts for 4-7 new stores, 20 remodels, numerous department re-inventions and new formats including convenience and market format stores. Develop a look that is consistent with the Meijer brand and immersive for shoppers and team members. Work with Construction Project Managers to ensure designs are producible and implemented properly. Lead and direct Strategic Vendor Partners focused in Architectural Design, Graphic Design, Fixture Production and Signage Installation. Collaborate with internal business partners including Merchandising, Operations, Procurement, Asset Protection, Real Estate, and Marketing. Lead the creative development for major initiatives including a new interior design package for Meijer Super Centers, new interior design and branding for Meijer Convenience Stores, and developing a new, urban, small footprint market format store (Bridge Street Market, Woodward Corner Market, Capital City Market, Rivertown Market Detroit). Develop graphic and interior design concepts for Meijer corporate facilities.

In addition to the responsibilities of the Senior Designer, now reporting to the Director of Product Development of Home and Hardlines, lead the Design team to develop trend, color and design that align with Meijer Own Brand strategies. Work directly with Product Development Managers and Buyers to create original designs. Distribute design assets all internal stakeholders. Fully accountable for originality of creative work. Present Everyday and Seasonal Trend and Color to senior leadership. Responsible for delegating projects, assigning travel and purchasing design supplies including the Pantone library. Review design samples and strike-offs and comment on quality, finish and color.

Attend Maison de Objet in Paris, France in addition to traveling to Chicago IHHS, New York Tabletop Market, New York Textiles Market and Atlanta Gift Market.

Mentor Product Designers and instruct on Meijer design process and design standards. Lead Design Team on various projects from Beach Towels, to Lighting and Décor, to Back-to-School Stationery, Tissue Boxes, Tabletop, Housewares and Hunting Apparel. Establish self as key source of trend, color and design for Meijer Home, Hardlines, Consumables and Card & Party Buying teams.

Establish relationships with Meijer Strategic Vendor Partners. These relationships allow Meijer Designers to share trend, color and design with Vendors, receive feedback and additional design resources.

As a member of Meijer’s Seasonal Integration Steering Committee, work with a cross-functional-team composed of Visual Merchandising, Advertising and Packaging Designers to build continuity across all aspects of Meijer design. Responsible for bringing Seasonal Trend and Color information to the group.

Working in a group of designers, develop trend, color and design direction. Research trend and color information utilizing the subscription services WGSN, Stylesight, Stylus, and Pantone. Work with the Product Development team to see designs through initial concept to development to final product. Focus on Seasonal design for Valentine’s Day, Easter, Summer, Back-to-School, Back-to-College, Halloween, Harvest and Holiday across Tabletop, Kitchen Textiles, Décor and Stationery. Travel to Chicago IHHS, New York Tabletop Market, Atlanta Gift Market and Paperworld and Christmasworld in Frankfurt, Germany.

LEAD DESIGNER - KATIE BROWN BRAND EXCLUSIVELY AT MEIJER
Katie Brown is a celebrity licensed Own Brand carried exclusively by Meijer from April 2010 through December 2015. Develop original, unique products for Tabletop, Kitchen Textiles, Décor, Bedding, Patio Furniture, Garden Décor and Holiday Decor. All products developed exclusively for Meijer. Meet with vendors to ensure designs are producible through their manufacturing capabilities. Meet with Katie Brown to review artwork and product assortments.
