Marco Balsinha is a Portuguese industrial designer, awarded in several international competitions in the fields of design and sustainability.
He holds a BA in Product Design from the Faculty of Fine Arts, University of Lisbon (2003–2008), and a Master’s degree in Product Design from ESAD.CR – School of Arts and Design in Caldas da Rainha (2012–2015). In late 2015, he presented his Master’s dissertation titled Uroboro – A Domestic Ceramic Vermicomposter, a project awarded the LCiP Prize.
From 2008 to 2013, he worked as a Product Designer and Head Designer at Abrakadabra, a company with its own production unit dedicated to manufacturing furniture for kindergartens.
Since 2016, he has been part of the R&D department at TENSAI Indústria, working as an Industrial Designer developing refrigeration equipment for both domestic and commercial use. He also collaborates with TENSAI FURNITURE, focusing on OEM plastic furniture solutions. Alongside his corporate work, he is involved in various freelance projects related to product design, branding, and visual identity.
Since 2022, he has been a PhD candidate in Design at the University of Aveiro, and a member of ID+ (Research Institute for Design, Media and Culture). His research focuses on the strategic integration of design within business administrative structures. ORCID: 0009-0008-1882-0927
His main research interests include the development of innovative environmental sustainability solutions and the optimisation of production processes, with a particular emphasis on design as a key driver of transformation and efficiency.
