BEFORE | West Tampa is in the very early stages of revitalization. This building was formerly a nightclub with a restaurant attached.
COhatch took over the entire building, but maintained the barbecue restaurant that has been central to the community for over 60 years. Because COhatch inhabits both the single story and two-story buildings, the green "ricochet" stripe unites the two visually so people can identify it as one unified location.
THE ENTRANCE | Each COhatch has a unique personality. To contrast some of the more elegant designs in the previous locations, the West Tampa logo was inspired by heavy metal music. Did you know that Tampa, FL is actually the death metal music capital of the world?
With so many square feet, West Tampa turned a portion into an event space suitable for large groups. The cigar industry thrived in West Tampa, and thus became our inspiration for the rentable meeting space.
EXTERIOR
ENTRY | Fun fact: West Tampa is the Death Metal capital of the world, and the location's logo reflects that in the styling of the typography.
MEETING ROOM | West Tampa has a nickname of "The Big Guava," a play off of New York's moniker "The Big Apple." This mural quite literally showcases a big guava.
MEETING ROOM | This meeting room honors a local restauranteur and activist who served the community in many ways for decades.
MEETING ROOM | During its history, West Tampa was nicknamed "The Wilds." This meeting room is a fun spin on that moniker.
My team and I coordinated the specifications and implementation of the hand-painted murals. We developed the specification template for our vendors and used this method to communicate with all implementation partners.

COhatch West Tampa - Tampa, FL

West Tampa, FL is in the very early stages of revitalization. COhatch invested in a central location to help revitalize the community. The selected location was formerly a nightclub with a restaurant attached. We transformed the multi-building location was unified and re-planned to improve the restaurant location and provide COhatch with 14,000 sq ft of coworking, office, and event space. All graphics tell stories that nod to West Tampa's history.
