About
I seek to push the boundaries of what can become of the objects we use, the spaces we inhabit, and the ways we interact with each other and our environment. I am fascinated by the intersection of art and technology, and believe this combination can lead to unique and exciting products, environments, and experiences. My designs are informed by my education in engineering and my explorations of design thinking, product design, architecture, ecology, and human behavior.
I have experience driving design implementation through concept sketching, 3D modeling and rendering, prototyping, and manufacturing. My combined experience in engineering and design enable me to bring a creative vision to life as a working end product.

Mechanical Engineering and DesignLoyola Marymount University2010 - 2014During my four years at Loyola Marymount University I complemented my mechanical engineering requirements with a spectrum of courses in design and entrepreneurship to foster a systemic approach to problem solving and innovation. Due to my interest in design I have sought out projects and classes that involve product conceptualization, sketching and 2D ideation, CAD modeling, and prototyping and product implementation. This puts me in a unique position to bridge creative ideation with technical implementation. Progressive design requires a comprehensive understanding of people and their needs, and how human society fits within the planet’s natural systems. To better understand people’s needs I have studied psychology and philosophy, and to better understand our society and the environment I have studied economics, political science, and environmental science. In my work I consider the context of design—for our products do not function in isolation.

As a mechanical engineer, I work in close collaboration with the design team to ensure that a product concept can be translated efficiently into an effective product. My responsibilities include user experience research, product concept development, Solidworks 3D modeling, materials analysis and selection, design for manufacturing, and prototyping.

Industrial Design InternSanta Barbara, CAJun 2013 - Aug 2013 (2 months)Lifestyle Design is a design agency that offers strategic branding, strategy, product design and packaging design services. While I was interning with Lifestyle Design I participated in the reconception of the brand strategy for one of their major clients (House of Marley), helped produce new graphics and renderings for a line of headphones (House of Marley), and helped conceive and model the form of a new portable speaker (Respectify). I gained experience with 2D ideation on paper and in Illustrator and 3D modeling and rendering in Solidworks and Keyshot, and learned about design for manufacture, product pricing, marketing strategy, and brand strategy. My experience at Lifestyle Design helped me to understand product design and strategy. It made me more capable to work alongside designers as a mechanical engineer.

Mechanical Engineering InternSanta Barbara, CAJun 2012 - Aug 2012 (2 months)Neal Feay is an aluminum manufacturing company that designs and manufactures high-end audio equipment and furniture. While at Neal Feay I gained exposure to the entire production process of a product: beginning with rough pencil sketches and evolving into a dimensioned CAD model, the interaction between the engineers and the machinists to correctly machine the part using CNC routers, finishing the part (sanding and coloring), and shipping the parts to customers. This experience gave me a clearer picture of the context in which engineers and designers work as it relates to the rest of the production process.
