This first page is a combination of final images, sketches and renderings produced for the Black & Decker project. Also featured are the final models of the drill, battery and security charging station. 2 years of research and development along with direction from the Dewalt Team was a great learning experience.
The initial concept sketches dealt with understanding the ergonomics associated with hand tools and the advantages/disadvantages with traditional drill batteries vs. slide pack batteries.
Featured above are the marker rendering concepts for the angled drill along with an extended battery station. With the angled approach to the drill design, the intent was to create a center-line balance. The initial concepts here featured a battery life indicator that would allow users to see the drill usage earlier while on the job site. This would eventually steer our group meetings to push the envelope and incorporate drill security.
