The master study of Gerard Soest’s Portrait of Thomas Buwler presented a certain quality of subtlety in form that I recognized in my own work. While the handling of the brush differed from my own I began to experience the intimacy of looking into fragments of a painting. 8”x8” Oil on wood.
Initially this piece started as a pallet knife piece but it was decided that using brush work would challenge me to control brush work and the overall quality of the piece. 11”x14” Oil on wood.
