Expo Milano 2015 Cluster International Workshop, Sep-Oct 2012, Politecnico di Milano, Italy. Over 180 participants were divided into 9 groups, each representing one on the 9 cluster pavilions to be set up at the Expo Milano 2015. Each group was subdivided into 3 subgroups in order to develop three design concepts for each cluster. The team from National Institute of Design, India was a part of the Spices cluster along with students, tutors and professors from IUAV, Venice and Politecnico di Milano, Milan.
The concept was one of the three developed for the cluster ‘The World of Spices’, and was finally selected for execution by the clients. Identical rectangular pavilions for the participating countries flanked a Central Boulevard which formed the primary experiential zone and housed all the common spaces including displays, kiosks, shopping areas, culinary zones and small and large event areas. Wooden roofs of the pavilions continued across the Boulevard, as a floor in certain segments and as a roof in others. The varying configurations provided for an immense variety of floor, wall or ceiling mounted displays or kiosks.
