The main mechanic in Smurfs' Village and the Magical Meadow is farming. Players plant crops from previous harvests, which causes two to grow after a period of time, allowing players to grow their inventory of crops over time. Harvesting crops also earns XP for the player, allowing them to level up and earn new crops, and items to decorate the village with. Each garden requires an available Smurf to grow crops, which are limited by the number of huts in the village, which are in turn limited by level. As such, players feel a strong sense of progress over time as their farm starts small, but quickly becomes very active with numerous Smurfs working the land.
Players are able to convert the crops they grew into coins via the town square which can be used to purchase additional plots, new Smurf huts, and vanity items. Stalls appear in the town square based upon the types of crops the player has available to them. As crops are also needed to grow more crops, players must balance when to sell crops, versus when to plant.
The meta game tasks players with decorating their village, and growing its populous. To accomplish this, players are able to place new huts, decorations, pathways, and fences. Long term goals are formed by way of the generic Smurf huts which can be upgraded and customized using basic currencies, as well as via special Smurf huts which can be modified with various upgrades via the use of special rare items.
Each specialty Smurf offers players a unique perk for their village, as well as adding a familiar face to the village. Specialty Smurfs also unlock quest chains for the player, ensuring there is strong motivation to collect new characters beyond aesthetics.
Specialty Smurf huts can be upgraded using Smurfy Items - special items that occasionally appear when harvesting crops. Each upgrade adds a new customization to the hut. By completing a series of upgrades, the player will level up the hut, and in turn, boost the special effect that the Smurf provides.
To help ease the transition from the original Smurfs' Village, loyal players are rewarded with special bundles based upon their time commitment and spending patterns. These packs include basic and premium currency, Smurfs, and Smurfy Items, giving players a head start. They also include a unique statue item that only players of the original Smurfs' Village can obtain, allowing players to feel special when they upgrade.
