I found an extremely exciting part time college job
Coach Inc.
New York, United States
Sales Person I found an extremely exciting part time college job, just like all of New York. This Coach retailer was the oldest one still standing and was very small and charming. It had a lot of whimsy and most of all within the manager, who made me truly appreciate being a merchant. We kept the store like it was ours, cleaning merchandising, selling. We had a lot of great customers, lost tourists and local financial district business people. I learned how to juggle customers and be very approachable. Here I was a top sales person and reviled in being on top. Was dubbed *merchandiser* because of my creativity although it was not needed, but I was given special responsibilities to put out new merchandise and organize. Consistently a top sales person. Responsible for training new employees. Organizing stock, running product, gift wrapping, shoe fitting.

Assistant Manager - Designer Handbags, Handbags & Small Leather Goods
Nordstrom Inc.
Providence, United States
The assistant manager is an important cog spinning two different wheels: the team and the manager. Everyday we built up our clientele and worked to keep our inventory stocked with what was in demand. We kept an open dialogue about what was hot and not with our team and checked them against actual reports. We fought hard to gain increased stock of particular Designer vendors, less of others and to carry a completely new department of Progressive handbags. These tasks required great delicacy, diligence and a network of hundreds of people to get through to and make ourselves stand out behind emails. In the end we had great success in the area. My everyday responsibility was to make our daily fiscal goal for our department, which averaged three thousand dollars a day and could be anywhere up to ten or twenty thousand on particular events we threw. I saw this as an opportunity to capitalize on brands that were not selling, I sought to educate the customers and employees on the magnitude of the product. I managed to shift the lowest-selling Designer handbag vendors to the top three and we were holding onto a rolling 30% increase. Sorted daily shipments into inventory and floor while checking accuracy and reporting and solving any discrepancies. Merchandise floor by standards and creatively display new items. Participated in various vigorous monthly regional meetings which required travel and participation. Discussing trends in business and fashion and to share insights. Pulled daily reporting of finances and inventory levels to present at morning meetings. Maintained and cleaned all handbags and fixtures daily, delegating and helping. Presented daily and quarterly goals to the team and helped to resolve them and sold along side to motivate. Presented information and games for morning store meeting and made announcements over intercom. Emailed vendors, district and store managers as needed daily.

Merchandising Manager
American Apparel Inc.
Providence, United States
I had a great opportunity to turn a store that was completely waisted and fix it. Of everything I have ever done I may be most proud of what I did at this establishment, although it is no longer in Providence. The store was recovering from a fire and the building was constantly under construction. I asked to be the merchandiser as soon as it was available. Little did I know of the mess awaiting me. However, I am a digger and quickly got to the bottom of it. I learned how to network and talk to the people I needed and get the information I needed. I discovered twenty missing mannequins and hundreds of missing fixtures, not to mention a gigantic list of items missing from inventory that had been used for displays. I found them all in the hard-hat area that was closed off from the fire. I saved the company thousands of dollars by 1) Recovering these items 2) Sending them to stores that need them 3) Recycle destroyed parts. I made use of everything I could in our store and we saw a huge increases in store moral, sales and customer flow. I also organized the breakdown and re merchandising of the whole store when construction was through. I teamed with the NY merchandising team and the construction workers to make sure everything went as smoothly as possible. Learned to apply my creative education to retail merchandising. Learned to get what I need from people who are hard to get stuff from. Learned how organized I can be, I found a place for every single item that was once in a mess. Taught the team merchandising standards and encouraged them to be proactive in merchandising. Traveled from store to store for special projects. Sales Person
