Rachel is a product designer studying at Ravensbourne University with a keen interest in children’s products, psychology and development. Children are most receptive to learning in their younger years and her aim is to create innovative products to help develop children’s fundamental skills.

Learning through play is the epitome for every educator, parent and progenitor, and Rachel strives to incorporate that philosophy into her designs.

Whilst being an independent freelancer, she also works collaboratively within team scenarios and client centred design. She is able to develop concepts in 2D and 3D, using creative software and technologies.

A recent project by Rachel produced a set of coasters designed for fathers to take home from pubs and cafes, to their children promoting literacy in children.

  • Education
    • Bachelor of Arts (BA) Product Design
Ravensbourne College of Design and Communication
      2012 - 2015
I am currently in my second year as a student representative. My role includes communicating thoughts, opinions and complaints between my design class and senior management of the university As President of the Christian union for a year I ran a weekly meeting, organising the content and guest speakers. I also organised extra activities, connected with UCCF and other CU’s in London.
  • Experience
    • Intern
      Fieldwork Rest and Play
      Jun 2014 - Aug 2014 (2 months)
As an intern for FWRP I was able to learn about client work. I attended meetings with clients and a colleague, mostly from primary schools, and assisted in designing the space and what play equipment would be most beneficial for the children's development through play. When assigned a space to design on my own I was able to work efficiently and please the client. FWRP builds all of their products as well as designing them. As part of my role I helped to cut, sand and put together sheds, and outside play equipment. By the end of the two months I had become a valued member of the team.
    • Co Founder
      Pallet
      Oct 2013 - Dec 2013 (2 months)
As a university project I was set the task of creating a product that cost under £1 per unit to produce and sell at the Penrose Festival in November. I worked in a team of four designing then producing recycled pallet wood frames with a suspended canvas of art in the middle. I was appointed Directing Manager by my group as I lead them and did most of the admin and cost work.
At Penrose festival we made a profit, were asked to exhibit at the Handmade Christmas fair at the O2 and decided to collaborate with two artists.
The Handmade Christmas fair was a great experience working with others to make our products known and desirable. And was helpful in learning about markets and getting real life experience.
