The TSP turret stockpicker is a very specialized piece of warehouse equipment. The use cases can be distinct and unique, requiring flexibility to adapt to user preferences and customer demands.
This Project was the first redesign of the original truck built in the 1980's. A total ground up reimaging of an extremely successful and profitable lift truck.
Extensive ethnographic research was conducted over 18 months to understand the unique qualities of each customer use case. The team's deep understanding fueled the ideations for a highly adjustable operator cockpit that would break new ground.
Physical mockups were intrinsic to the development of the concept. Operator feedback was critical to ensure the feature was a true value and not just a gimmick.
The value of a rotating seat came to life once the rotational control was located on the operator's finger tip. Seamlessly and quickly changing seating positions was critical to creating operator value.
Multi-Function control handles were a huge paradigm shift from the previous truck's individual, hydraulic levers. Blending of multiple truck functions took operator efficiency to a new level.
12 months field testing of the truck and it's systems presented the opportunity to validate that operators do in fact use each of the four seat positions depending upon the tasks being performed. Operator value was confirmed.
