I used to believe that industrial designers were the owners of design. It was our job to reframe the problems, understand the users and their needs, and create the solutions. Now I understand that we are the managers and experts of the design process. Anyone can be involved in the design process and bringing in people with different perspectives adds value and insights that can create a wide range of solutions to tackle any problem. It is our responsibility to guide them through the process and have them focus on broad or specific things at the right time. A good industrial designer could pull a stranger off the street and help them design a successful new product for any company.
