I was brought into MerchantCantos to head up their digital design offer. Whilst at MerchantCantos I tripled the size of digital design team of which I led. My role involved overseeing web projects, managing resourcing and the team as well as designing some of the more complex and flagship projects. Part of my role encompassed teaching other designers and developers about digital and responsive web design, which were fondly named Tom-torials.

Digital Designer

Oct 2012 - Aug 2013 (10 months)
I began my work at Addison by rewriting and implementing their website process documents and sign off approval forms. I concepted and designed an online CSR magazine for BASF, developed a content framework delivery system for FIFA and the Premier League and several online annual reports. I also did in-depth studies and research into responsive and adaptive web design, and all my projects at Addison used this technique and follow a logical content choreography and navigation system. I looked after and oversaw the work of two other designers and helped, guided and taught them to accomplish better designs and outcomes using positive criticism.

I joined Black Sun plc. during very busy period of the year, and immediately integrated well into the team. I worked across the two aspects of their business: online corporate communication and customer marketing. I concepted and designed multiple online communication strategies and websites as well as following other designers conventions, rules and templates. I was a member of the CSR committee where I was involved in the company’s sustainability strategy and their participation in the local community. I was also head of the innovations committee where we carried out research and then presented the latest digital innovations and ideas to key stakeholders and board members in the company.

At FaulknerBrowns I worked primarily as a concept architect designing and strategising initial concepts for ongoing projects and pitches. I frequently met with clients and other stakeholders during the design process to pitch and present ideas. I regularly showcased ideas and information to the rest of the design team and actively participated in critiques of others’ work. I was also involved with the production, implementation and QA of the companies website and CMS system.
