Varun Bhalerao

As an engineer, I strongly support the saying, " We should make things happen, not just study them". As a Master's student, I have demonstrated excellent academic performance in the first semester in the field of Mechanical Engineering and I am currently serving as a Graduate Teaching Assistant for the Materials Science laboratory.

As a space exploration enthusiast, I am currently a part of R.I.T.'s Space Exploration Research Group which allowed me to engage in some challenging and intriguing projects like designing, analyzing and fabricating a cubical satellite and designing, testing and fabricating a cold gas propulsion system. The group also helped me to enhance my leadership skills as I am leading a "Simulation and analysis" team of 4 members.

Since designing, analyzing and testing are also my fields of interest, I took up some challenging projects like:

- Design, fabrication, and testing of Seebeck coefficient experimental setup.

- Design and fabrication of satellite and cold gas propulsion system.

- Study and analysis of the ionic liquid as an additive to mineral oil as lubricants for the cold rolling process.

I have also made contributions to the field of thermal | fluids by working on projects like, "Boiling acoustic emission analysis", "Heat transfer enhancement by jet impingement" and "Thermal analysis of Internal Combustion Engine fins."

Working on Lean Six Sigma Yellow belt certification, I got the knowledge as to how can I detect and eliminate the defects and wastes in the system which was later used to develop an efficient plan for bronchoscopy procedure that will save a total of $800/month by eliminating nurse and staff overtime and reduce the lead time by 90 minutes for a local hospital in Rochester, NY.

To make recognizable contributions, seeking an internship | coop in the field of design, thermal | fluids, and industrial | manufacturing starting Summer | Fall 2017.
