Vince Chiaramonte is the Design Director for The Buffalo News. By emphasizing a bold and sophisticated design strategy The News has become an industry leader in visual journalism through the use of classic typography, illustration, information graphics, editorial and portrait photography. Since 2006, The News design department has received over 300 awards for design and illustration, including 7 silver medals and a Judges’ Special Recognition. Under his direction the paper was a finalist for "World’s Best Designed Newspaper" in 2011 and 2013. Responsibilities include planning, design editing, art direction and the supervision of a staff of seven designers and artists.
Has received over 180 individual awards from The Society for News Design, including 4 silver medals, a Judges' Special Recognition and over 35 individual portfolios. Honored by the Associated Press, NYSPA, APSE (for page and/or section work). Was selected as ''2006 Sports Designer of the Year'' by SportsDesigner.com. Was a speaker at SND's annual conference (Boston, 2007 and Cleveland 2012) and a two-time judge for SND's ''Best of News Design'' competition.
