As Director of Visual Design for American City Business Journals, I lead the News Design Desk — a nationally distributed team of designers and creative directors shaping the visual identity of 40 business publications across the country. In 2024, I led a company-wide redesign that unified ACBJ’s print and digital platforms, creating a more modern, cohesive, and scalable brand experience across all markets.
Blending editorial storytelling with strategic design leadership, I focus on building systems that elevate clarity, consistency, and audience engagement. My work sits at the intersection of journalism, brand evolution, and innovation — creating design frameworks that not only unify platforms, but position ACBJ for the future of business media.
Previously, I spent 22 years at The Buffalo News as Assistant Managing Editor for Print, where I advanced the paper’s reputation as an industry leader in visual journalism. By emphasizing bold, sophisticated design rooted in classic typography, illustration, and photography, my team and I earned more than 400 awards for excellence in visual journalism — including nine silver medals, two Judges’ Special Recognition awards, and multiple recognitions as a finalist and semifinalist for World's Best Designed Newspaper.
Has earned more than 200 individual awards from the Society for News Design, including four silver medals, two Judges’ Special Recognition awards, and 40 individual portfolio honors. Additional recognition includes awards from the Associated Press, the New York State Publishers Association, and the Associated Press Sports Editors for excellence in page and section design. Named Sports Designer of the Year by SportsDesigner.com in 2006. Served as a speaker at the Society for News Design annual conferences in Boston (2007) and Cleveland (2012), and as a four-time judge for SND’s Best of News Design competition.
