I am an experienced design leader seeking my next challenge. I thrive in creative, fast-paced environments that are seeking to be the change we envision. With over 25 years of design consulting and leadership experience, my vision is to lead a team of ambitious visionaries to weave and enthrall the next generation of customers.
We are entering a new realm of development that will be melding the digital with the virtual. I am a leader that embraces the burgeoning concept of leveraging artificial intelligence alongside good old fashioned experience and finesse to create the next-generation of user experience and products.
I am looking for the next perfect fit for my skills and experience. Some examples of the kinds of development that will tweak my knobs includes but are not limited to the following:
- Work on a next-generation product that blends meatspace product development with AR/VR technology
- Working with a funded start-up to lead the charge from well thought out concept to
scalable production product.
- Mid-term to short-term consulting to develop and hone a scalable design strategy.
- Develop workflow meld next-generation AI tools with real world development processes.

BA Industrial Design with Photography MinorPurdue University1989 - 1994Purdue was where I first set down the path of understanding the importance of a holistic product development cycle. Industrial Design working in tandem with the rest of the development team. My knowledge of team was deepened as I was a four year letter winner for the Purdue Track and Field Team where I placed 5th in the Big 10 for the 400 M Hurdles and 2nd in the Big 10 for the 4 x 100 M Relay. Most important from this experience, I learned that, as a walk on athlete who eventually earned an athletic scholarship, the value of working your ass off to achieve what you want.

Product Design LeadVancouver, BCOct 2020 - Present (5 years 9 months)Leading the design and UX development for a revolutionary commercial food technology start-up. Responsible for bringing the napkin sketch concept to a viable first-article design. Working directly with the CEO to formulate a design, business, and production strategy that fit the timeline and budget. Worked with and led a multi-disciplinary team in collaboration with local and manufacturing vendors to deliver functional first prototypes enabling sales and investment development in this early stage start-up.

We work with our clients through the process of understanding the reason behind why people might want their product(s) and use that insight to provide what the product should be and how it should be created.
Most product development processes get stuck due to lack of understanding with respect to how the product should be used. Hurdler Studios can alleviate the frustrations of stagnant corporate product development life cycles as well as bring clarity and experience to a fresh start-up development cycle. -

Chief Design OfficerVancouver, BCMar 2022 - Mar 2023 (1 year)Worked directly with the CEO as consulting Chief Design Officer (CDO). Provided leadership and coaching for a young multi-disciplinary start-up team in effort to transform first-generation product into viable next-gen design and user experience. Implemented design strategy that dovetailed with development goals. Spent significant time guiding and mentoring an energetic team of young designers and engineers.
Transferred design from in-house small production run (SPR) to be viable for high-volume Taiwanese manufacturing and fulfillment. -
CEORichmond, CanadaJan 2015 - Oct 2017 (2 years 9 months)I led the design and global distribution from the inception of the Clug Bike Clip as a Hurdler Studios' side project, to a globally distributed product. Over the course of 3.5 years, Clug raised $107K on Kickstarter and $500K in annual sales on a $20/unit device.
Culminating with online sales and distribution partners in over 13 countries, I directly managed Clug Brands Inc. to a successful exit in September of 2017.
Clug has garnered multiple design awards including IDSA IDEA Gold, Eurobike Best of Show (Accessories), and The International Dieline Award (Silver). Clug can still be purchased online at www.getclug.com. -
