About
There are two things that excite me most about designing. The first is to make things possible that were not possible before - even if it’s in a small way. The second - without which, for me, the first is not complete - is to give these innovations a shape that is just right: making them usable, understandable, and giving them the right emotional context.
I operate through my design studio, Michiel Cornelissen Ontwerp, where I combine work for clients such as Philips Design, Lorenz and Soonsalon with the creation of my own range of products, including furniture, jewelry, homewares and electronics accessories.
My products have been featured in magazines and on blogs like Gizmodo, Wired, Designboom, Core77 and NotCot. Several of my designs have been recognised with awards, including IF and Red Dot. A selection is available in stores - including the New York and Japan MoMA, and Centre Pompidou in Paris.

Product Design & Creative Direction, Philips Personal CarePhilips Design Amsterdam/Amerfsoort2002 - 2008 (6 years)One of the highlights of this position was when I lead the first project to apply the ‘sense and simplicity’ Philips brand promise to personal care products - a great collaboration with the Philips Design team and Roland Bird of Gro design.
Another was running a project with a dream team of designers, marketeers and engineers to create a revolutionary product in male shaving, with a week-long kick-off workshop in, wait for it, Barcelona. -

It's wonderful to work with a group that aims to create best-in-class products, products that are great to work with for medical professionals, but are also as comfortable and non-intimidating as possible for patients.

Product Design ConsultancySara Lee1994 - 1994Right at the start of my career, I designed the Ambi Pur Flush for Sara Lee; the first 'liquid rimblock' air freshener, which has now been in the market for some 15 years, and has sold millions, if not billions, worldwide.
