My name is Maia, I was a freelance graphic designer from 2012-2014. Then I worked for Google, and then I went back to school to change careers (and hopefully make the world a better place).

I no longer freelance regularly, but still do volunteer graphics work for nonprofits like the estimable Philadoptables. If you need a logo, sticker, t-shirt, icon, favicon, etc, maybe I can help!

I graduated from Temple University in 2012 with a BA in Art Direction for Advertising, a Fine Arts minor, and a yen for exciting color palettes.

www.SantaClassics.com is an art project by photographer Ed Wheeler. He'd been making santas for 20 years, but had a lifelong dream to share them. In September, the Philadelphia Museum of Art began selling Ed's Santas as holiday cards, and Santa Classics went viral in the blogsphere by late November.

    • Graphic Design Intern
      EgoPo Classic Theater (NPO)
      May 2012 - Sep 2012 (4 months)
I worked as a Designer/Illustrator for printed materials like ads and fundraiser collateral and created multimedia slideshows; helped staff the annual fundraiser Gala; created Facebook events and other social media advertisements; and worked as a Stagehand for their production of A Dybbuk (where duties included: running around in the dark carrying heavy objects, greeting/ushering patrons, gophering between Production crew and Cast, and emptying/filling the stage bathtub with water--its a long story).

      Aug 2009 - Jan 2010 (5 months)
Afton LLC is a booking agent for various bands and artists across the country. As their on-site representative in Philadelphia, I organized shows of 5-12 bands a night at different venues across the Philadelphia Area, including the Rusty Nail in Ardmore and World Cafe Live. I coordinated between the venue's sound and house managers, the bands and their managers, (and sometimes their stage mothers), while also being in charge of the door and all ticketing transactions for the shows. Skills included calm under fire, friendliness, good time management and quick mental math.
    • Intern

I worked with Mural Arts and graffiti artist Stephen Powers (ESPO) to create murals for the Summer of Love project, which can be seen on the El line between 69th and Broad streets. Specifically, working with a multi-generational team of 5, we canvassed the neighborhood, brainstormed the design with lead artist Gabriel Tiberino, and painted and applied the mural to the wall at 47th and Market.
