Humanties discipline is used to explore significant themes and issues of contemporary concern through the disciplines of the humanities: art, music, literature, philosophy, and history. Humanities education offerings represent a broad spectrum of topics and approaches: historical knowledge, cultural knowledge, aesthetic training, creativity, knowledge of disciplinary critical canons, and synthesizing ability. In addition, these courses reinforce basic skills in reading, writing, and critical thinking.

UNLV History BA program supplied a set of skills that can be applied to almost any career. The most general of these are reading, writing and listening. In history classes gave the students the ability to learn how to read a document or listen to a lecture analytically, to pick out the central points and distinguish them from less important material. There is a large emphasis on research skills by which students can uncover diverse kinds of data and organize it into a coherent pattern.

◆ Communication skills, such as negotiating, questioning and summarizing.
